Hurricane Irma Emergency Order

Pursuant to an Emergency Order filed with the State of Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulations on September 15, 2017, "A certified or registered, general, building, or residential contractor is not required to subcontract roofing work for the repair and installation of any flat roofs and roofs made of wood shakes, asphalt or fiberglass shingles, tiles, and metal"  This order will expire on November 3, 2017.  Contact your Okeechobee County Building Department for further information.  The full Emergency Order can be viewed by clicking on this link.

Important things to remember:

When Submitting A Permit Application

  • Effective 4/1/16 per Florida State Statute 713.135 (6) (a), all permit applications applied for must be signed and notarized at time of submittal.  For permit applications submitted electronically, the following additional statement must be included in the submittal:  "Under penalty of perjury, I declare that all the information contained in this building permit application is true and correct."   Click here to view the Florida Statute: http://www.leg.state.fl.us/Statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&URL=0700-0799/0713/Sections/0713.135.html
  • A Site Plan is required showing setbacks, fire separation, overhead and underground utilities, septic tanks
  • Owner/Builder Affidavit (if applicable) must be signed in person at building department
  • Contractors must be registered with the County and have current liability and workers compensation insurance
  • Three sets of construction drawings are required for non-residential work and two sets for residential

Prior to First Inspection

  • Notice of Commencement (NOC) for jobs in excess of $2,500.00
  • Preliminary Pest Certificate
  • Road & Bridge Approval for Right-of-Way Permit
  • Preliminary Soil Compaction (FAX copy)
  • Form Board Survey (if applicable)

Prior to Final Inspection

  • Final Pest Certificate
  • Final Septic Approval
  • Approved Road & Bridge Inspection
  • Original Soil Compaction
  • Finish Floor Elevation or Elevation Certificate

Prior to Issuance of Certificate of Occupancy

  • Solid Waste and Fire Assessment fees must be paid
  • Fire Fighter Safety Building Marking System emblem must be installed
